Genoa and CMO to Unveil Prototype of Multi-Primary Color LCD Panel
Yokohama, Japan - October 17, 2005 - A prototype LCD television display panel produced specifically for MPC (Multi-Primary Color) technology will be displayed at FPD International in Yokohama on October 19 - 21, 2005. The demonstrator is the result of a development program conducted jointly by Genoa Color Technologies, the Israel startup that developed the MPC ColorPeakTM technology, and the Taiwanese company Chi Mei Optoelectronics (CMO), one of the world’s leading manufacturers of large-size LCD TV panels. Based on these results, CMO will continue its evaluation of the potential of MPC technology.
“CMO is very pleased with the excellent results of the prototype development; It has helped us to understand Genoa’s innovative technology,” said Dr. Li-Yi Chen, director of CMO’s sales and marketing. “The picture quality of the ColorPeak multi-primary panels is amazing, and will be highly attractive to consumers. CMO will continue evaluating the feasibility of this technology for mass manufacturing.”
“We are delighted to be working with an innovative and ambitious partner like CMO,” said Genoa CEO, Ilan Ben-David. “We are very impressed by their technical team and their creativity to find speedy solutions. We firmly believe that our co-operation with them will lead to an earlier implementation of Genoa technology in the mass market.”
ColorPeak is revolutionary in that it adds from one to three colors---typically yellow, cyan and magenta---to significantly expand a display’s visible color gamut by approximately 35 percent while increasing its brightness by as much as 40 percent. ColorPeak display can generate over one trillion colors compared with 16.7 million produced by conventional TV sets. The result is a picture that looks more like cinema than video. Because of these characteristics, MPC has the potential to be the successor to RGB technology which has prevailed since the advent of color television over fifty years ago.
Genoa Color Technologies develops technologies to significantly enhance image quality and the viewing experience for a wide range of displays. The company supplies chips to major electronics companies for integration into their product lines. Genoa, with R&D based in Herzlia, Israel, is supported by VCs and private investors.
