The modification of a 3-panel projection system to support 4 primaries enables large expansion of the color gamut and significant increase in brightness (see diagram below).

This is true for both transmissive HTPS imagers and reflective LCOS imagers. The implementation requires modifications to the optical design in order to integrate the fourth panel. The modifications are easier to implement in LCOS architecture based on a ColorQuad architecture.
